So, I'm in the minority here but...

I gotta say, I'm a bit bummed with the book. It's 95% vegetarian. I got this for my 17 year old son thinking it might help him practice cooking or give him some ideas in the kitchen but neither him or any of the guys wanna learn how to make kale chips, mozzarella cheese bites or tofu stir fry. I'll be returning it.

Good cook book for kids but watch out for errors in the ingredients

Good cook book for kids who are interested in learning to cook. Very easy to follow and food turns out delicious. HOWEVER, be careful there are errors in the ingredient quantities. My daughter and I just made batch of chili following the recipe. It tells you to put 3 tablespoons of chilli powder!!!! There’s no way kids can eat that. For 1 lb of beef, it’s way too spicy for kids even grownups. We actually jearned a life lesson - you shouldn’t just follow the recipe as is. Sometimes you got to question it or double check or make trial and errors. So it’s all good in the end. My daughter still loved making her own chili.

Favorite basics cookbook by far!

This book has well tested recipes with tons of variety: familiar American flavors done well, explained simply, and covering the basics my 11 year olds want to know. Things that caught their eyes: Pancakes, French Toast, Waffles, Eggs (hard boiled, fried, and scrambled), Breakfast Tacos with Bacon, Blueberry Muffins, Monkey Bread, Smoothies, Yogurt & Berry Parfaits, Granola Bars, Stovetop Popcorn, Salsa, Guacamole, Cheese Quesadillas, Nachos, Hummus, Lemonade, Iced Tea, Hot Chocolate, Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Tomato Soup, Oven-Fried Chicken, Beef & Broccoli Stir Fry, Beef & Bean Chili, Pizza (dough & sauce included), Corn Bread, Mashed Potatoes, Buttermilk Biscuits, Honey Butter, Banana Bread, Chocolate Sheet Cake, Chocolate Chip Cookies, Brownies, Strawberry Shortcake, Chocolate Sauce... Things that additionally caught my eyes: veggie wraps, caprese panini, glazed salmon, quinoa, roasted broccoli, sesame noodles, strawberry cream paletas... I am attaching pictures of the index so you can read more. The thing about good cookbooks is they should show you what you know you want to learn and help you discover other things that you never knew existed but suddenly might be enticed into learning. This book does that, and does it really well because ATK tests their recipes so thoroughly, that if you follow the directions you are guaranteed a good quality meal. Leaving a beginning cook satisfied with a positive result is what this is all about. And frankly this is a book I would recommend for college students because it doesn’t talk down to you; it’s just presenting good food. Final word to the reviewer who was grateful to not “have” to watch their children in the kitchen: Yes, yes, you really do, but your relationship will be so much better for having spent real time together. Just do it.

Nicely done

Good quality book with recipes simplified where possible. For example instead of whisking melted butter into milk they guide through combining and heating in microwave. The recipes are marked as easy, medium or advanced and a mix of tastes for simple and more advanced palettes. Kids vary greatly but having raised my family and now cooking with grandchildren I would advise find something else for kids under 12 unless they show a real interest in cooking or more adventurous eating.

Make another cookbook! We need more recipes!

I’ve bought pretty much every children’s cookbook I can find and this one is hands down the best. I dont just buy these and they sit on the shelves. We use them! My children cook dinner every single week. I’m a chef and I hold a cooking class with them once a week, every week. I want them to read recipes and execute the steps. It’s beyond important to me that my children easily work their way around a kitchen. This cookbook is hands down the best one. The recipes taste good and make sense. It’s recipes that push the envelope in the right areas but produce really tasty meals, that have obviously been tested, and also the kids will eat. I do have a complaint though- not enough main meal recipes! That’s my one and only complaint! Make another cookbook already! All the other ones out there totally suck. We’ve made the oven fried chicken, the buttermilk drop biscuits with honey butter, Mexican street corn (ah-MAZING!), shredded chicken tacos, beef and bean chili and corny cornbread. Next weeks menu is the apple cider glazed pork chops with garlicky skillet green beans and smashed potatoes so they will be doing three of your recipes in one night! Can’t wait! All have been really tasty and I’ve come to trust the recipes knowing it will come out right. We made a recipe from a different cookbook last week and it was a disaster. Learned my lesson! We need more recipes!

Should be Cookbook for Teenage Chefs

Very disappointed. Great reviews were deceiving. Much too involved if your child is not a "chef". I love America's Test Kitchen but their tests must have been on children who spend all their time in the kitchen. The grandchildren I purchased books for love to be in the kitchen but most of these recipes are not foods they normally eat.

Let kids cook!

This was delivered on Friday and I woke up to avocado toast prepared by my 10 year old on Sunday. She adores this cookbook and I am 100% here for my child cooking for me for a change! This book has boosted her confidence and encouraged her to try new things - Saturday night she made tofu and geeen beans! You will not be disappointed with this book.

Nice informative cook book

I got this book for my kids but learned a bit myself! This book not only contains easy recipes for kids but techniques and information used by REAL cooks. It even includes recommendations for tools like proper knives and cutting techniques. Really glad we made this purchase.

great kids cookbook

I bought this for my son for Xmas. He likes to cook and I thought he would like to have his own kids cookbook. The book arrived with bent/crumples top corners on front and back hard cover. Looks like I bought it from the clearance section. So beware if you plan to give as a gift, packaging not great.

delicious recipies written for kids

I bought this book for my 11 year old daughter who has taken more interest in baking over the last few months. This book is very descriptive and appropriate for new cooks. So far she has made us pancakes and the chocolate chip cookies and both recipies were very good! I am looking forward to what she makes next.
